So, this A – Z Challenge. I’m doing it. Why? Who can say. Every now and then I need to commit myself to something involved and dedicated to remind myself that I’m not living in a coma dream where everything around me is a figment of my imagination. I’m sure my imagination isn’t strong enough to invent a 1,400 strong community devoted to blogging every day in April on a topic of their choice. Even my imagination has limits. So this is it. My contribution to this endeavor to celebrate and share in the hidden treasures of the blogging world, to discover new minds, words, and interests. To maybe get bored halfway through and give it up. The possibilities are endless.
After considering what I would blog about for all the time it took to go downstairs for a cup of coffee, I’ve decided to write about that which takes up most of the space here: books. Yup, books. My modest little library has grown a lot since I first toured it here a year ago. There were once only two shelves. Now there are six. Many books were bought and many more were retrieved from storage abroad. It’s not a complete collection–it may never be complete–but I will never get tired of sharing it. Or staring at it.

But wait! You all cry in outrage at your monitors, heedless of the fact that I cannot hear you–We already read one book tour, don’t bore us with another.
Quite right. That’s why this time I’m going to focus on the authors of the books, rather than the books themselves. Will there be interviews? No. Will there be bios? Probably not. Will there be guest blogs?! Don’t bet on it. What there will be are broad commentaries on the writing styles of authors who I’ve read over multiple books, best reads, excuses as to why I haven’t read certain literary staples, and baby pandas*. The books on my 2014 reading list will be featured with a little extra information, and I’ll be asking for opinions, suggestions, and recommendations from fellow book lovers who can’t keep quiet about the books they love. So, yeah, I’m pretty much just going to be talking about the books.
I’m going to limit this to fiction for brevity, and so that I don’t have to constantly rearrange my books to fit them all into a single photo. Additionally, some of the more nomadic books are floating around the house. Many of them end up under pillows, between couch cushions, on sunny window sills, or other places of reading comfort. Some of them are just photo shy. I apologize if I can’t get to them all.

Are you kidding? I love talking about books. I pester my friends all the time to read the recent books I’ve loved, just to have someone to talk to about them. I’ll try to make my posts as entertaining as possible. 🙂

I love to read, but aside from books about homeschooling or books I use for homeschooling, I don’t get a lot of reading done. I look forward to reading what you share during the challenge; hopefully I’ll find some new authors to read (or avoid LOL).
I stopped reading for nearly ten years when life got busy. When I started to pick it up again, I thought “Wow, how could I ever live without this?” Taking up writing gave me more reading motivation too, which really helped.
This sounds like a different take on books. Seems interesting. Would be stopping by in April for sure!

I think we could all stand to learn more about the authors of books we like, but if I wrote about why I haven’t read literary classics, the list would be short and easy — I don’t like them. lol

I definitely like some classics more than others. ‘The Woman in White’ for example is one of my favorites. ‘Jane Eyre’ is shaping up to be heading in that direction too. ‘Frankenstein’, however… perhaps the less I say about that one, the better.

Books, glorious books! I love your shelves. What really interests me about this topic is that (at least in my opinion) e-books will never compare to the feeling of holding a physical book in my hands, enjoying the print, the paper, the look of the spine standing on the shelf…words on a screen just don’t have that extra mysterious whatever-it-is. Fascinating. Wishing you a happy April!
Yes! I’m so glad someone shares my opinion on the ebook/print book debate. Ebooks are convenient and all, but they will never replace the way a true, print book teases the senses. Plus, I’m a pack rat and I like to see my things on display. 😀

Oh, oak bookshelves… that sounds amazing. Unfortunately, with the rate at which our books are multiplying, we’re having to buy cheap plywood shelves. But hey, that means more money for more books!

I like your theme. I need to discover some new books to read and then make myself read them. I am terrible about reading. Even though I enjoy it, there are so many distractions and I am so easily distracted. Maybe you will share a few good ones to ignite my curiosity an get me to read again. Laughing at Life 2

A librarian! You get to be surrounded by books all day! Though I think I would be tempted to take a few too many home permanently. I had to give up going to the library for that very reason.
Ha, ha! Maybe I should have said lapsed librarian as I am officially retired, but once a librarian, always a librarian. I am just as busy doing library stuff, I just don’t get paid for (most of) it.
